According to the stage production Starship, the Starship Rangers are a fictional branch of Earth's space exploration force. The organization's stated purpose is the peaceful exploration of the galaxy for the good of humanity and scientific discovery. However, an ulterior motive of human colonization gradually emerges throughout the story as the Rangers interact with the inhabitants of a new planet.
The olive branch, atom, and top three stars in the organization's icon reference the pursuits of research, exploration, and the expansion of humanity's understanding, while the fourth star references the return to Earth after all missions.
